Triumph Bonneville by Francis Choung

Francis Choung è un videomaker che vive e lavora a Manhattan e uno dei pochi coraggiosi che decidono di costruirsi la propria special da soli. New York è un posto dove le moto sono bistrattate: parcheggiate contri i pali, urtate dalle macchine, rimosse dalla polizia. La Bonneville di Francis riflette il minimalismo e la praticità di molti preparatori di custom contemporanee: la base è una Bonneville di serie del 2007 ma gran parte della moto è stata profondamente rivista. A parte il lavoro di “chopping” per eliminare le maggior parte delle sovrastrutture, Francis ha provveduto a modificare alcune parti essenziali del suo ferro, come la misura delle ruote (ora entrambe da 18′), lo scarico e i carburatori. Parcheggiare una moto a New York può essere un problema; è per questo che la moto di Francis si trova in uno dei santuari newyorkesi delle due ruote: garage comuni dove le moto sono pensate e costruite dai moto-artisti della Grande Mela.

Francis Choung is a video editor living and working in Manhattan and one of the few brave people who build their own custom motorcycle by themselves. New York is a place where motorcycles are treated really bad: parked against poles, vandalised, stolen or removed by the police. Francis’ Bonneville is a symbol of the minimalism and pragmatism that characterise many contemporary customs builders: the donor is a stock 2007 Bonneville and a big part of it has been modified. Besides the “chopping” aimed at removing the superfluous elements, Francis’ work focused on some essential parts of the bike. As a results, the wheels are now both of 18′ and exhaust and carburetors are also coming from the tuning market. Parking a motorcycle in New York can be quite a big challenge. This is why Francis’ Bonneville has been built (and now lives) in one of the numerous motorcycle-only garages.
