Harley Davidson “Café Sportster” by Shinya Kimura

Shinya Kimura è con tutta probabilità il più importante costruttore di motociclette custom al mondo. Famoso per i suoi “Samurai Chopper”, low-ride dalla cura costruttiva ineccepibile e dai numerosi dettagli cromati, si è dedicato più di recente alla costruzione di racer dallo spirito personalissimo e orientate più alla sperimentazione estetica che tecnica o funzionale. D’altra parte Shinya è un personaggio piuttosto eclettico: dagli studi universitari sugli insetti (le cui forme e colori, guardando bene, si ritrovano nelle sue moto), all’apertura di Zero Engineering a Tokyo, alla recente fondazione di Chabott Engineering in un paesino sconosciuto ai bordi di Los Angeles. E’ proprio da lì che Shinya lavora, costruendo non più di 3 o 4 moto all’anno, il cui prezzo è di gran lunga superiore ai 100.000 dollari.
Di recente, Shinya è stato protagonista al Wheels and Waves con la sua “Faster Son” su base Yamaha MT-07 e commissionata da Yamaha Europe. Ne parleremo a breve su Rust and Glory.

[Shinya Kimura is most probably the most famous custom motorcycles builder in the world. Known for his “Samurai Choppers”, Shinya has lately dedicated his efforts and time to endurance-looking bikes aimed more at an aesthetic experimentation then at technical perfection (even if he accomplishes both). Shinya is an eclectic character: from studying insects at the University, to founding Zero Engineering in Tokyo, to giving birth to Chabott Engineering in Azusa, a tiny village just out of Los Angeles. These days, Shinya works in California, building no more than 3 or 4 motorcycles per year, whose price is almost always well over 100.000 dollars. In the last weeks, Shinya was the protagonist at the Wheels and Waves in Biarritz, France, with his Yamaha MT-07 built for Yamaha Europe. We will soon see this bike on Rust and Glory].

La moto che vediamo in queste foto deriva da una Sportster (presumibilmente) del 2003 e si rifà alle linee delle racer anni ’60, reinterpretate in una chiave “metallizzata” dove, come in tutte le moto di Kimura, se l’estetica la fa da padrona, la meccanica non deve essere da meno.
