BMW R 90/6 “Frau Türkisblau” by Custom Culture Co.

Quando Mark e Viktor di Custom Culture Co. hanno progettato la trasformazione di questa R 90/6 del ’73, lo hanno fatto sicuramente tenendo in mente la loro città, la bellissima Praga, dove il loro gioiello a due ruote si sarebbe fatto vedere sulle strade qualche mese dopo.
Dopo aver preparato varie altre moto, la loro intenzione era quella di creare qualcosa di nuovo, di diverso da tutte le altre cafe racer su base BMW. Per loro stessa ammissione, il disegno, compreso il colore personalissimo, è venuto fuori di getto dalla matita guadagnando immediatamente il consenso del cliente.

[When Mark and Viktor projected the customization of this ’73 BMW R 90/6, they had most probably in mind Prague, their wonderful city, where their jewel on two wheels would have been ridden a few weeks later.
After building other motorcycles, their intention was to create something new and different from all other BMW cafe racers. The design came naturally and immediately touched the customer’s heart].

Per una trasformazione tanto radicale, la moto ha richiesto di essere completamente disassemblata. Il telaio è stato smontato, pulito e riverniciato con il turchese che costituisce il segno distintivo di questo progetto. Il sotto-telaio posteriore è stato rimosso, lasciando posto a una struttura realizzata ad hoc e in grado di ospitare i due ammortizzatori posteriori. L’effetto al retrotreno è quello di un minimalismo funzionale: una struttura quasi inesistente in grado di funzionare perfettamente garantendo alla moto un assetto equilibrato.
Il serbatoio è realizzato in alluminio e ricalca le linee dell’originale, caratterizzandosi per dimensioni ridotte e design aggressivo.
La sella è chiaramente monoposto, avanzata rispetto alla ruota posteriore e perfettamente raccordata a codino e serbatoio.

[A so radical customization required to disassemble completely the donor bike. The frame was taken apart, cleaned and painted on turquoise (the color that is the distinctive sign of the project). The rear subframe was removed, leaving place to a structure projected to host the new shocks. The effect is of a functional minimalism: a almost non-existing structure that guarantees a perfect handling of the bike.
The tank has been built in aluminium and is characterized by tiny dimensions and an aggressive look].

Ciò che colpisce della moto, a parte il minimalismo (di cui abbiamo un altro ottimo esempio nella BMW R 75/5 Lil Dom) è il colore turchese che dona alla moto un carattere fortissimo. Il dettaglio è curato all’esasperazione, basti osservare gli ammortizzatori: il turchese appare ovunque.
Il motore è una versione potenziata del R 60 del tempo. La maggiore cilindrata si traduce soprattutto in coppia e divertimento alla guida.
Ben fatto Mark e Viktor, e complimenti anche al meccanico Jakub Vetesnik per essersi “sporcato le mani” in un progetto così ambizioso.

[The most eye-catching element of the bike, a part from the minimalism (check this other minimalistic BMW, the R 75/5 Lil Dome), is the turquoise color. The attention to detail is top-notch: take a look at the shocks and you will notice that the turquoise is everywhere.
The engine is the big bore version of the R 60 that attributes a much better torque to the bike, and thus a fun riding experience.
Well done Mark and Viktor, and congrats to mechanic Jakub Vetesnik for getting his hands “dirty” in this very ambitious project].
